help me try to help the world...

Or, ok, help me start my thesis.

I recently sent out some mass emails canvassing for help with the beginnings of my thesis research, and I will continue to ask for help here. My research looks at the discursive patterns found in travel blogs of Canadians volunteering in African countries--how they choose to describe their experiences through text, and in some cases images. What I'm asking is pretty straightforward:

If you know anyone (preferrably a Canadian) who has been to any African country as a volunteer and has kept a blog while there, I would love it if you could pass on the URL. Also, if you yourself have been to Africa and kept a blog, please pass me on a link to your travel blog. If you don't wish to post the link in my comments section, please email me at [removed email address].

I have already received an overwhelmingly helpful response via email, but the more links the better. If you know of someone who went, but can't remember their blog address, consider sending me their contact info and I can ask them for the info myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hey dallas! It's megan, from MIT! I'm also going to Concordia now, doing my MA in Creative Writing... I have sort of been spying on your blog... and I thought you might like to know that one of my dearest friends is in Ghana right now, volunteering for Unite for Site, and I don't think she would mind some more traffic on her blog... the url is http://jenistranslucent.blogspot.com/

hope that's helpful to you!

Hey Dallas!

There are a few blogs that I know about. One is my prof next semester- I found her online when researching who our new profs were. I don't know if you can use it because she's not volunteering but I've skimmed it and it's really good. She's freelancing all over Africa.

And my friend Katie's old roommate is doing Western Heads East and here is her blog address.

You may already have this!
Hope that helps! I'll keep you posted on any others I know of.

I'm sure you already know this, but James Ferguson was volunteering in Africa a while back...I don't think he kept a blog, but he definitely sent long, detailed mass emails about his experiences. He probably has them saved, if they would help...I might even have a few still in my inbox as I never delete anything. Anyhow, worth mentioning, I thought.

Thank you so much everyone, and everyone who emailed me as well! Sorry about the no updates. I am currently in Georgia, and I can't access blogger from my grandparents' computer. I promise a big update when I return!
